Analysis of advantages and disadvantages of tablet Microsoft
Has your successful Microsoft tablet? Does it come too late? Is it new enough? With
just a few hours of life the Microsoft Surface has already created a
stir and it has more meaning than their technological advances. Steve
Ballmer, CEO of the boys in Redmond under one thing very clear: Windows
is the heart of Microsoft and is present in more than ... 1,000 million
devices worldwide. And we must take advantage, of course.
Now is the time for Microsoft itself offers a hardware up to software. From these premises created the tablet Surface and indeed, from the technological point of view is a great solution. But at this stage of the game should already know that the success or failure of a gadget depends not only on that. There are many factors to consider such as these:
1. Surface is not just a tablet.
Surface really is only one tablet in its ARM processor and Windows RT-reduced version of Windows 8 -. The
model with Intel chip and Windows 8 is basically a tablet-like
ultrabook for which only had to remove the integrated keyboard. This
latest model runs the risk of offering limited autonomy, since Intel
chips consume significantly, although his credit, that provide a user
experience identical to any computer, which many Apple reproached with
his first iPad. Therefore,
although outwardly only differ by the thickness, it should be clear
that they are two very different teams with two very different types of
use. In
short, Microsoft tries to make a transition from the PC to the tablet
with some stealth, but without losing sight of both worlds.
2. Technological developments
Surface
has gathered together a few good ideas (some recycled) in a well
designed gadget, apparently very functional and cutting edge technology
such as USB 3.0. The
stylus pen and electronic ink is an old industry and keyboard built
into the protective cap is a good idea to get the feeling that
everything is designed to the millimeter. Both
try to maintain a connection details to the professional world and
computers, to give a sense of continuity and compatibility with already
used or known, even in a new format. On the contrary to what accounted for iPad breaking any reference to the past.
3. What about apps?
The
most important lesson of all this is you have to tuck a good hardware
with a broad, balanced and useful apps ecosystem and programs to achieve
really useful to the team. Android,
despite the strength of its various manufacturers, realized that having
more powerful hardware or new, is useless if you do not have software
utilities attractive. Of course, now it's up to Microsoft to show that its Windows 8 will be able to keep up. Office has input, but not much else is known about it and the success of the new OS yet to be proven. Therefore, although the hardware is up to paradoxically turns out that what really matters is Windows 8.
4. Other tablets
The world's battlefield tablets is clearly dominated by Apple and its iPhone since 2010. The
Android tablets licensed to multiple manufacturers have carved a niche
but only a few brands can say that Android tablets sold enough to be
significant. It
therefore seems clear that Microsoft is not going to be easy because,
for when the market almost 3 years have passed since the iPad created
this new world. Three years may seem few, but a whole world in terms of product development and market knowledge. The feeling is that Surface is late, but all is not lost. There is more to do as Xbox, which came to a world dominated by Sony's PS2, has carved out a good hole.
But
this is added the question of what happens with other potential
manufacturers Windows tablets entering bets, such as HP and Nokia, and
could be key to kick-start the platform. These potential partners are now with the dual challenge of competing against the iPhone or Android and against the Microsoft. It seems an enviable position for them.
5. Check the hardware and software
A
concept straight out of Apple's DNA and has been successful in recent
times (but not always so) is to control hardware and software to get
good performance. The idea has been 'copied' by Google with the purchase of Motorola and is now adopted by Microsoft. In
principle the synergy gained advantages in innovation (such as has
occurred with Kinect on the Xbox) as well as speed of response to new
competition. This
is a complete reversal in what they were doing Microsoft to license its
software to hardware manufacturers and may be the beginning of a new
strategy and new business model in Redmond. Hopefully you know use it.
